The Mission Statement The Story Board of Directors

Debbie L. Melone, a beacon of dedication and success in our shared nursing community, was born on March 29, 1958. She embarked on her nursing journey at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing, graduating on June 9, 1978. Her career trajectory was a testament to her unwavering commitment, as she advanced from a bedside ICU nurse to a clinical nurse educator, shaping the future of nursing. Her academic prowess was recognized with an MS in Nursing from King College on December 16, 2012. Debbie's passion for nursing and education continued to burn bright until her passing on March 11, 2023.

Debbie's devotion to nursing was only matched by her love for her family. For 45 years, she selflessly cared for others as a nurse, but her heart was always with her loved ones. She was a proud and affectionate Nana/Mimi, and her children and grandchildren were the very essence of her world. Her legacy of love and care lives on in them.

Debbie's family, in honor of her memory and profound dedication to the nursing field, has established a scholarship fund. This fund, far from being a mere tribute, is a beacon of hope for aspiring nurses, a lifeline to those who dream of following in Debbie's footsteps. It is a testament to the profound impact Debbie had on the field and a call to future nurses to carry on her legacy. The Melone Lighthouse Nurse Foundation will administer the Debbie Melone Memorial Nursing Scholarship, a symbol of hope and opportunity for those who wish to pursue a nursing education beyond becoming a registered nurse.
